Tired Prince
1852 – The woods of Bavaria, Germany
There is a fable in Bavaria of a lonely princess who befriended a speaking frog.
The princess was drawn to this odd frog because of his intelligence and wit, and his skill as a conversationalist.
She often thought, “Why can’t this frog be a prince?” One day, amid an excited exchange, the charming frog hopped too close to the princess. In a fright, the princess picked up the frog and threw him against the wall.
Unbeknownst to the princess, the frog was a prince who had been turned into a frog by an evil magician.
This spell could be broken only by the true love of another. And in that moment, as the princess saw her companion unconscious and concussed, she realized her true love for the frog.
Here is the prince right before he turned back into his human form. A little bruised, but happy.
